It’s been a great start to the year with the successful execution of our latest event in February, a Health and Wellness Day for clients of the Asylum Seekers Centre in Newtown. A boutique specialist event ,the day was an absolute success with all the spirit of our larger festivals. Facilitating a local venue a safe community space was created for Asylum Seekers and Refugees where everything from make-overs to massage was on offer. The Asylum Seeker Centre hosted a fantastic community lunch and our amazing Rough Threads volunteers on the day were working their usual magic.
The Bodycare Counter handed out over 80 toiletries filled with essential items along with special items of make-up and perfume. The Murphy Gozzard hairstyling wizards were working their incredible magic with the help of the amazing Wanda (a regular hairstylist for those struggling in our community) and one of our new volunteers Paul (from Sustainable Salons). The transformations brought smiles and laughter from adults and kids alike and as always our clients left feeling connected and supported by the community. The passionate Christophe from the Juanita Nielsen Centre was there to help parents get involved in fitness and healthy eating whilst the kids enjoyed our brand new arts and crafts area, The Rumpus Room.
Delighted to have worked with the Asylum Seekers Centre on this latest event and looking forward to the first BIG event of the year at our flagship venue in Darlinghurst this April. Details on how to Volunteer can be found here (link to volunteer form)
